The global fashion
and apparel sector is undergoing a profound transformation, driven by rapid
advances in digital technologies, increasing emphasis on sustainability, and
evolving global value chains. In response to these changes, Prime University
has established the Department of Fashion Design and Apparel Engineering with
the vision of developing graduates who combine fashion design capability,
textile engineering competence, and strong digital proficiency.
Within the context
of Bangladesh, this transformation is particularly significant. As the
country’s apparel and textile sector continues its transition from volume-based
manufacturing to higher value-added, design-focused and technology-driven
products, there is a growing demand for professionals with strong foundations
in fashion design, digital product development, and apparel engineering. The
establishment of this department directly responds to this national and
industry-level need.
The department has
been designed with a clear focus on industry relevance and future readiness.
Its curriculum integrates fashion design, apparel engineering, and digital
product development, ensuring that students acquire both conceptual
understanding and practical skills. Particular emphasis has been placed on computer-aided
design (CAD) and digital fashion tools, including pattern-making, 3D garment
simulation, and visual communication software, which are now central to modern
fashion design and apparel merchandising practice.
Alongside curriculum
development, significant attention has been given to the planning and
establishment of state-of-the-art laboratory and design studio facilities,
enabling experiential learning, innovation, and applied research. The academic
structure encourages interdisciplinary learning, critical thinking, and
problem-solving, preparing graduates to contribute effectively to fashion
houses, buying houses, apparel manufacturers, global brands, and
entrepreneurial ventures.
The Department of
Fashion Design and Apparel Engineering is committed to fostering a culture of
academic excellence, ethical practice, and industry engagement. Through
collaboration with industry professionals, research-driven teaching, and
continuous curriculum review, we aim to ensure that our graduates remain competitive
in both national and international contexts.
I warmly invite
prospective students, industry partners, and academic collaborators to engage
with the department as we work together to shape the next generation of fashion
designers and apparel merchandisers.
